DISPATCHED FROM THE CROSSROADS, AT THE intersection OF home & road

Back Home

We're back from our "Long Way To St. Louie" trip. 6.5 days to get there; 3.5 days with my family; 2 days to get home. We'd left it open-ended, giving ourselves permission to stay on the road for a good long time. But I know that, when my mind starts buzzing with new ideas, vacation has accomplished its purpose and it's time to get home.

St. Louis was enjoyable -- more adult-oriented than our usual holiday trips, since the nieces and nephews were in the first exciting days of summer vacation. We did lots of yakking and laughing. In between, we sqeezed in two trips to the library (genealogy section), a couple of museums, a walk through the Missouri Botanical Gardens, and a pilgrimage to Ted Drewes for the famous frozen custard. We packed up my grandmother's china and a set of glasses for me to bring home. And my brother stocked me up with more items for his section of my ebay store.

The "long way" part of our trip took us through New York, Pennsylvania, Maryland, West Virginia, Virginia, Tennessee, Arkansas and Missouri. More on that tomorrow...
