Not a Cartoonist, continued  [or back to page 1]

What's so frustrating to me is that I think drawing should be like bicycling... something learned that becomes a reflex. But it must be more like music or singing or foreign languages: if you're not practicing continually, you rust right out.

I grumble because I always wanted to be a "natural" at something. Instead, I live in a valley surrounded by steep and slippery learning curves. Well... at least I've developed the leg muscles to know I can climb them, even though a few are damn slippery.

In the heat of enthusiasm I spent a couple hours yesterday making a six-panel cartoon. I used a static photographic background and drew myself in using a Wacom drawing tablet. It is unbelievably crude and ugly. Not fit for the web.

Flipping through an old sketchbook, I found a page where I practiced putting different expressions on a self-caricature. Not horrible. I scanned it and, through the miracle of modern computing, I bring you attempt #2 at sequential art:
