Friday, June 16, 2000San Miguel de Allende, Mexico I was beginning to feel pessimistic about creating a relationship with San Miguel. The shops were starting to look the same and our people contact was limited to the Tennessee William's saga of our hosts. But driving out of town with Paul and hearing his excitement over life in San Miguel drew me in again. He dropped out of high school in the fifties and has been knocking around the world on various jobs ever since. He's been in San Miguel for 10 years and feels it stacks up well against most of the world-class places he's lived (London, Bali, San Francisco, Bangkok). Today we went to Dolores Hidalgo, a little town that specializes in Talavera pottery and tiles. We visited the church and the little Hidalgo museum and ate goats-milk ice cream from the vendor in the square. |
