DISPATCHED FROM THE CROSSROADS

Week In Review

6/5/10 A productive and cheerful week.

Productive work: Passions

Grand Exits. Finished with next revision of 31 out of 37 chapters; did the ending, chapter 38.

I'm feeling a little playful with it -- a good sign.

Productive Work: Stewardship

Sold a few hundred bucks on Ebay same as last week... but I've been lazy about restocking.

Exploratory Work

Reading. Reality Hunger: A Manifesto by David Shields (kindle). This book is providing huge comfort and inspiration by reassuring me that the leading edge in good writing is just the kind of genre-muddy work I'm engaged in.

Infrastructure work

Posted my home network + internet interface to share with the world what I'm up to. Maybe someone will get some use from it. I love it when everything works.

Signed up for Skype. Now what?

Joined the Electronic Frontier Foundation, which (I think) advocates for thoughtful application of copyright laws to digital intellectual property (that is, honor copyright, prosecute real pirates, but otherwise, don't go haywire over song/movie sampling for non-commercial purposes). As a result, I also changed the copyright notice on all my web-based stuff to a Creative Commons license: go ahead and use my work if you also attached my name to it and if you distribute your work under the same share-and-share-alike license.

Energizing Not-Work

Meditation. Changed my morning routine. One half-hour first thing in the morning to sit quietly in my ground floor study, writing Morning Pages -- though I don't do the prescribed three pages. I do a combo of writing/scribbling and stimulating reading.

Relaxing day-trip to Watkins Glen, dinner out at Dorado's, shoe-buying at the Outlet Mall, all with J. Happy hour with Pat; marketing with Maria.
